How did we book these tickets?

Before we jump into the “suite” details, let’s review how we booked these flights. Award availability is very tough to come by, so we regularly checked the ANA award search for these flights. There’s no need to spend extra money for external services like ExpertFlyer if you know what you’re doing. ;)

Wooper booked the following itinerary:

Total Trip: JFK-HND, HND-BKK, BKK-NRT, NRT-JFK
Class: business class
Total Cost: 105,000 ANA miles and $329

Wobbuffet booked this segment with the following:

Part 1: JFK-HND, NRT-JFK
Class: first class
Total Cost: 120,000 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles and $256

How did we get all those miles? The bulk of the points came from American Express. American Express points can be transferred to ANA miles and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles to purchase the flight. We opened American Express Gold and Platinum credit cards and received a total of 110,000 points each after minimum spend. In addition, the platinum card gives you 5x points on airline purchases and the gold card gives 4x points on USA dining and groceries!

Woop and Wob: 0 miles and 0 premium points

Since this was booked completely with miles, there is neither mileage nor premium point earnings on this flight.

ANA Suite Check-In

After our fun time at Aeon mall (which you can read here: https://www.woopandwob.com/2020/01/8-hour-layover-in-tokyo-go-to-aeon-mall.html), we headed back to Narita airport. Because Wob is travelling in First Class, we both were able to use the ANA Suite Check in! Other ways to access this check-in lounge is by being an ANA Diamond member of flying First Class.

The entrance to the ANA Suite Check-In.

The suite check-in was a very tranquil place to check in. It was also very slick and modern. The check-in agent also provided us with hot towels and put a sticker on our boarding passes so that we don’t need to get checked again.

Suite Check-In Counters

In case you get tired, you can have a seat while the agent checks you into your flight.

Suite Check-In Seats

After checking in, we went to a private, single lane security checkpoint. After having our bags scanned, we proceeded to customs and immigration and were on our way to the ANA Suite Lounge.

ANA Suite Lounge

There are 2 ANA Suite Lounges in Narita Airport. We decided to go to the main lounge in Satellite 5 because we also wanted to check out the normal ANA Lounge, which is right next door. The ANA Lounge in Satellite 4 is on the 2nd floor and is actually windowless! Below is a map of how to access both ANA Lounges.

There were lots of amazing food and desserts in the ANA Suite Lounge and we were super excited. Upon entering the lounge, we were guided to a quiet place in the lounge with amazing views and given a hot towel. The kind lounge attendant also offered to bring us a drink of our choice. Soon after, the ANA lounge attendant came back with our drinks.

Vegetable juice and a hot towel.

After settling down, we had a feast in the lounge!

A la carte menus

There’s a menu where you can order a la carte meals. The hot dishes on the left are exclusive to the ANA Suite Lounge. The right dishes can be ordered in the normal ANA Lounge as well.

Assorted Pastries
Salad Bar, Cheese, Fruits, and Desserts
More Desserts
Assorted Sushi
We started with dessert!
A close up of one of the desserts in the ANA Suite Lounge.
We ordered a sashimi don. It was delicious!!

After eating a ton of food in the ANA Suite Lounge, we walked over to the ANA Lounge next door. To our surprise, there was a sushi chef making fresh sushi! We just had to have some authentic Japanese sushi before we left.

Yummy freshly made sushi!

After an amazing experience at the ANA Suite Lounge and ANA Lounge, we headed to board on our flight to NY.

Goodbye Japan. :(

We’re off to NY!

ANA First Class

We were in separate classes, but Wob invited Woop to relax together at times. :) (Though in reality, one should remain in their own classes). Wob boarded the plane first as he was flying first class.

First thing’s first. We took a look at the new First Class amenity kit. In addition to the Globe Trotter amenity kit with goodies in it, the ANA cabin crew gave us a leg refreshing kit, lip balm, and Wifi vouchers.

The amenity kit with additional goodies.
Inside the amenity were: ear plugs, an eye mask, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and Ginza products.
The Ginza cosmetics - face wash and lotion.
We looking at the menu. There are 2 menus - one for the drink and one for the meals.
We are looking at the drinks. There is a special Mapple Juice!

The Mapple Juice has a very detailed description: Mapple Juice Sparkling Apple - By years of our trial and error Mapple can finally introduce Sparkling Apple Juice. 100% straight juice is free of water, sugar, preservatives and additives. Ripened best quality Fuji apples of Nagano Prefecture are gently sparkled with a lot of time to produce Sparkling Juice. The fine bubbles moderately influence taste of apples. Find and enjoy elegant and refreshing drink till the last sip.

Next up are a ton of pictures of the meals. The food menu was extremely detailed.

Before leaving, the ANA flight attendants allowed us to keep the first class pajamas, menus and also gave us some ANA postcards and a handwritten note. These personal touches are the main reasons why we love flying with ANA. Thank you ANA. :)
