Of course, the way they phrase it makes it sound very confusing! To simplify the savings, if you spend a total of $200, you’ll save $10, which is effectively 5%. The Calculations
In order to maximize the discount, you should purchase the discounted gift cards totaling as close to $100 as possible for each purchase. The more you spend over $100 in each purchase, the smaller the effective discount will be.
Note, we are not considering the additional savings you get from buying the discounted gift card. This is purely only the money that is spent on Raise.
The Best Case Scenario: Purchase #1: $100 Purchase #2: $100 - $10 = $90 Total Savings: $10 / $200 = 5% saved
A Not So Great Scenario: Purchase #1: $200 Purchase #2: $200 - $10 = $90 Total Savings: $10 / $400 = 2.5% saved
If you can manage the best case scenario and stack the additional returns from the credit card points and Rakuten/Ebates, you will save a a total of 11% off any gift card! This is on top of the already discounted gift cards! If you play your cards right, you can save 15% or even 20% from a store you would normally shop at! (including grubhub and Uber!)
