It’s Woop and Wob again and this time, we’re reviewing our trip from Bangkok to Tokyo. After enjoying the Singapore SilverKris Lounge and the Thai Airways Lounge, we decided to head to our gate and board our overnight business class flight from Bangkok to Tokyo (Narita).
Woop and Wob and ANA Original Aroma!
In Bangkok, the gate area is a waiting area where passengers cannot exit once they enter. That’s because the ground crew scans your boarding pass and gives you the ticket stubs back. We didn’t go to the gate until boarding time because waiting in this area is quite boring.

How did we book these tickets?
Wooper booked the following itinerary:
Total Trip: JFK-HND, HND-BKK, BKK-NRT, NRT-JFK
Class: business class
Total Cost: 105,000 ANA miles and $329
Wobbuffet booked the following itinerary in two parts:
Part 1: JFK-HND, NRT-JFK
Class: first class
Total Cost: 120,000 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles and $256
Part 2: HND-BKK, BKK-NRT
Class: business class
Total Cost: $1765
How did we get all those miles? The bulk of the points came from American Express. American Express points can be transferred to ANA miles and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles to purchase the flight. We opened American Express Gold and Platinum credit cards and received a total of 110,000 points each after minimum spend. In addition, the platinum card gives you 5x points on airline purchases and the gold card gives 4x points on dining and groceries!

The Flight
The seat for this flight was the ANA Staggered seats. There were actually a lot of business class seats and we decided to go to the second, more private business class cabin. These seats can completely lie flat and are very comfortable! There’s even a mattress pad and a comforter to make the seat even more comfortable. The table slides out from under the buttons on the table. You can read more about the seat in our previous review as well: https://www.woopandwob.com/2019/08/day-10-tokyo-to-bangkok-in-ana-business.html
The amenity kit was fairly basic – it had a toothbrush with toothpaste, an eye mask, earplugs, slippers, and an ANA original aroma card. The aroma card was very fragrant. You can read more about it here: https://www.ana.co.jp/en/us/serviceinfo/share/aroma/ Woop loves the aroma card! It’s really refreshing!

Since the flight was an overnight flight, we went to sleep relatively quickly. Before sleeping, the flight attendants provided us a menu and a breakfast order form to fill out. We filled out what we wanted to eat and went promptly to sleep.
The ANA lie flat seat!
When we woke up, it was morning and the sky outside looked quite peaceful! You can see the nice colors that you can only see on an airplane in the sky. We were truly in the boundary between Earth and the universe!
The morning sky
For breakfast, we ordered the washoku meal. This meal was quite substantial! Below is the items on the menu:
Zensai (A selection of morsels)
Wakame seaweed and egg tofu with soy-based sauce Simmered duck in soy-based sauce Asparagus rolled with uncured pork ham Grilled fishcake
Shusai (Main course)
Simmered whitefish in soy-based sauce Steamed rice Miso soup and Japanese pickles
Fruits
We also ordered a mini donburi from the anytime menu. The mini donburi consisted of simmered minced chicken, scrambled egg and grilled salmon flakes over steamed rice. This was a very filling meal and we were very full!
A delicious breakfast!
When we landed, we decided to spend some more time in Japan (since we had an 8 hour layover). We quickly went through immigration and decided to look for information on things we could do during our layover. It’s like a second trip to Japan! In our next post, we’ll tell you all about our true final day in Japan!
