It’s Woop and Wob again and this time, we’re reporting our trip from Tokyo to Bangkok. This is the next leg of our international trip from JFK (New York) to BKK (Bangkok). After a full day in Tokyo, we took the Limousine bus to Haneda airport for our flight.
We checked in quickly through the business class counter and sped through the express lane security check lane because Wob had ANA AMC Platinum Status. This helped us get on our way to the ANA lounge very quickly!
ANA Lounge
We had access to the ANA lounge because we were flying business class to Bangkok! Even if we didn’t fly business class, Wob could have brought us into the lounge because he has ANA AMC Platinum Status (which gives star alliance gold). If you don’t have access to the lounge, one can also purchase access for a modest fee. You can find more information here: https://www.ana.co.jp/en/us/serviceinfo/international/optional_svc/lounge/. Note that the cheapest economy class ticket (L, K class) is not eligible for advance purchase (and a discount) for this service.
Also, there are actually 2 lounges in Haneda. One near gate 110 and one near gate 114. It is better to go to the lounge near gate 114 as there are generally fewer customers there and you’ll have room to sit and relax. Gate 110’s lounge looks big on the map, but most passengers go to that lounge.
The lounge near gate 114 is very slick and modern! We’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
There’s also a noodle bar tucked in the corner where you can order ramen and soba.
After dinner, Wob decided to take a shower. To use the shower facilities in the lounge, you have to talk to the front desk and give them your boarding pass. You’ll be given a buzzer, which will ring when there is availability. The showers are very clean and modern. There are shower amenities by Thann and lotion by Kose. There’s even a Dyson hairdryer!

How did we book these tickets?
Wooper booked the following itinerary: Total Trip: JFK-HND, HND-BKK, BKK-NRT, NRT-JFK Class: business class Total Cost: 105,000 ANA miles and $329
Wobbuffet booked the following itinerary in two parts: Part 1: JFK-HND, NRT-JFK Class: first class Total Cost: 120,000 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles and $256
Part 2: HND-BKK, BKK-NRT Class: business class Total Cost: $1765
How did we get all those miles? The bulk of the points came from American Express. American Express points can be transferred to ANA miles and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles to purchase the flight. We opened American Express Gold and Platinum credit cards and received a total of 110,000 points each after minimum spend. In addition, the platinum card gives you 5x points on airline purchases and the gold card gives 4x points on USA dining and groceries!

The Flight
The seat for this flight was the ANA Staggered seats. These seats can completely lie flat and are very comfortable! There’s even a mattress pad and a comforter to make the seat even more comfortable. The table slides out from under the buttons on the table.
The amenity kit was fairly basic – it had a toothbrush with toothpaste, an eyemask, earplugs, slippers, and an ANA original aroma card. The aroma card was very fragrant. You can read more about it here: https://www.ana.co.jp/en/us/serviceinfo/share/aroma/
Since the flight was an overnight flight, we went to sleep relatively quickly. Before sleeping, the flight attendants provided us a menu and a breakfast order form to fill out. We filled out what we wanted to eat, had a quick kabosu drink, then went promptly to sleep.
The full menu can be found here: Food: http://bit.ly/2KFTZam Drink: http://bit.ly/2zb1XBO
When we woke up, we were served breakfast.
Okinawan spinach and yuba bean curd with soy-based sauce, Sea bream and burdock root roll, prawn and celery on skewer, Simmered scarlet runner beans in syrup, Japanese savory omelet with dried nori seaweed flakes
After breakfast, the cabin attendants gave every business class passenger a fast track slip for Bangkok. This allowed us to go to the short immigration queue and pick up our luggage quickly so we can make our way to our stay in Thailand.
That’s it for this post! Next time, we’ll show you some amazing food that we had in Thailand along with some unique Starbucks! Stay tuned!
