Woop and Wob here! Today, we are going to tell you about our fun trip back to Tokyo! First, we had to say goodbye to Kumamoto and our friend Kumamon!
Lunch: Curry at the airport
To get to the airport, we took the Airport Limousine bus that stops right in front of the ANA Crowne Plaza New Sky Hotel. The bus was only 780 yen, or about $7. It was really cheap and convenient.
At the airport, we knew that there wouldn’t be food beyond the security check, so we decided to have lunch at one of the five restaurants on the third floor of the airport. You can find the map and details here: https://www.kmj-ab.co.jp/eng/eat.html
We ended up going to Tawarayama and had a delicious and relatively cheap meal! The entire meal costs around 1,200 per person!
We made our way through security and we knew that there was an ANA lounge so we decided take a look. Because Wob’s trainer had ANA platinum status, we were allowed to enter the ANA lounge. The lounge was definitely a disappointment, so much so that we didn’t even take pictures. It literally was a cube with lots of chairs and some drinks. There were no windows!! After we sat for 5 minutes, we went immediately left the lounge and waited by the gate because there was more natural light.
Flight Details
Flight: NH1627 (operated by ANA Wings) Seats: 6H, 6K, Economy Class Plane: Boeing 767-300(76P) Date & Time: May 27, 2019, 12:30-14:10 Price: 10,800 yen/person (ANA Experience Japan fare) or ~$100
Because Wob has platinum status, we were allowed to choose seats closer to the front of the cabin!
The domestic ticket was very cheap as we were international passengers and are allowed to take advantage of the Experience Japan fare. The fare was only 10,800 yen, which was about $100. We used the American Express Platinum Card to earn about 500 Membership Rewards points. If you don’t have it, feel free to find more information here: http://bit.ly/2wyPlmN. There’s currently an offer for 60,000 Membership points if you spend $5,000 within 3 months.
The flight overall was very short and we enjoyed a small drink on our way back to Tokyo.
Welcome back to Tokyo
After a two hour flight, we arrived back to Haneda Airport in Tokyo. We took the Limousine bus back to the hotel. Like in our first day, we stayed at the same hotel, the Hyatt Regency Tokyo.
We settled down first at our hotel room before heading out. Where did we go on this day? Ikebukuro and Sunshine City!
Sunshine City
To get to Ikebukuro, we traveled by train. If you want to travel without worrying about calculating the fare, you should definitely get a Suica or Pasmo card. This is a rechargeable IC card that lets you ride the train and also get discounts from the train rides. You can also use this IC card to buy things in many places, including vending machines!
We then walked about 10 to 15 minutes to Sunshine City, a kind of mall full of different kinds of shops and restaurants.
The first thing we did was eat ice cream at Blue Seal!
As the picture suggests, Blue Seal came from Okinawa, and had flavors such as beni-imo or purple sweet potato. In addition to ice cream, Blue Seal also had crepes of all kinds.
We recommend trying the ice cream from Blue Seal, either from here in Ikebukuro or its hometown of Okinawa. The rich texture will make you hooked! It was such a treat!!
After a nice break with heavenly ice cream, we continued on to our main stop at Sunshine City: Pokemon Center!
Pokemon Center at Ikebukuro
It was a special time to go to the Pokemon Center in Japan. Why? Because of the Wobbuffet themed goods!
We ended up picking up a new Wobbuffet family member along with an Eevee with Wobbuffet’s trademark face. :)
Dinner: Mos Burger
When we returned to Shinjuku, it was now time for dinner. Unfortunately, it was also time for dinner for everyone else. Not wanting to wait outside in line to eat dinner at one of the many restaurants, we decided to get something quick but delicious. In the end, we went to Mos Burger for dinner.
A meal of a burger, fries and onion rings, and melon soda!
The food was prepared very quickly, and we were able to have a nice dinner for the day. Mos Burger is not in the United States, so it is a great idea to try out a Japanese fast food chain once. The specialty Mos Burger is so good because of their tomato based special sauce!
For dessert, we had ice cream from Haagen-Dazs, and cheese tart!
And with that, we decided to call it a day.
Next time: Our Final Day in Tokyo and the Pokemon Cafe!
