Woop and Wob here, continuing our adventures in Kumamoto!

Group photo with the Kumamons and our new friends!

As you can see from the picture, we made a new doggie friend from Kobe and some new Pokemon friends from Itami Airport. From the Pokemon fit plush line, we have Gastly, Haunter, Voltorb, and Electrode! They are cute and cuddly plushies, with pellets at the bottom so that they can sit comfortably. The plushies are also small and a perfect size for travelling! The dog plush is super squishy and great to play with! Who’s your favorite in the photo?

Our day in Kumamoto was mainly low key as we were saving our energy for the evening! We went to Kumamoto Station and bought some ekiben for lunch. All of the ekiben were very reasonably priced and delicious.

There’s a lot of great food at the Kumamoto Shinkansen Station!

Dinner: Shabu Shabu/Hot Pot at MK Restaurants

For dinner, we went to MK for shabu shabu. MK is actually a Thai franchise brand that expanded to Japan. Of course, the Japan stores have a Japanese touch to them. We ordered the all you can eat set and ordered a ton of food from the iPad at the table. They also had some dim sum on the menu as well, which were equally delicious. This MK was located in Hikarinomori: https://goo.gl/maps/gvDqJV3ZqdK5wg7d7

We got two different types of soup bases: normal on the left and sukiyaki on the right!
Here, we were placing the vegetables and meat inside the pot and let them slowly cook!

The total bill was $145 for 8 people! We used our Chase Sapphire Reserve card at this restaurant to earn 3x the points for each dollar. It was so cheap because we noticed that we could get 10% off by signing up for an app. It was a very sweet deal!!

Night with the Fireflies

Last up for our final full day in Kumamoto is a night out with the fireflies. We travelled to a place known for its fireflies. There were many people around seeing these fireflies, but as you can see from the following pictures, they were quite difficult to take. In order to take great photos, you’d need to bring a tripod and set a long exposure on the camera.

The green lines are from the fireflies!
You can kind of make out some trees and houses, but it was very blurry as we didn’t have a tripod.
Unfortunately, our photo didn’t come out as nice as the one featured here!

Feeling satisfied with the beautiful scenery of the fireflies, we headed back to the hotel and got ready to go to bed. We had a great time in Kumamoto and would love to come back. Everything is so peaceful and we really hope that Kumamoto continues to do its best to recover from their earthquake several years ago. がんばろう熊本!

Next time: Back to Tokyo!
